Planning approval for the scheme at Task Consumer Products was granted in January, and will see a huge extension built to the firm's existing premises along with a 125,000 square foot new build development, which the firm says will deliver purpose-built warehousing and distribution space, as well as expanding production capabilities.
Birmingham based commercial property developer Stoford says remediation and demolition work has now started at the firm's 18-acre site at Citygate Park on Stafford Road, having appointed Benniman as main contractor for the redevelopment.
“It’s exciting to see the start of construction work on site. This is a multi-phased project, on land which was historically used for landfill, so we’ve had to carry out extensive remediation and demolition works in readiness for the new development," said Dan Gallagher, Joint Managing Director of Stoford.
“Task’s commitment to investing in the site is positive news for the city of Wolverhampton, securing its future in the region and creating employment opportunities for local people. The development also reinforces Stoford’s commitment to Wolverhampton and the wider Staffordshire county too.”
Established in 2007, the Wolverhampton company is now one of the largest independent paper converters in the UK, with a manufacturing capacity in excess of 100,000 tonnes per year.
The expansion is expected to create up to 50 new jobs when complete.
“We are very pleased to see that the main build works are progressing well," said Nikul Patel, Director at Task.
"This development is central to our company’s growth and expansion plans and will deliver the additional space we need to increase production and streamline our operations. It’s an exciting chapter and we look forward to seeing our vision come to life.”
The full project is scheduled to be completed in August 2025.
Councillor Chris Burden, City of Wolverhampton Council Cabinet Member for City Development, Jobs and Skills, added: “This expansion by Task shows a huge commitment to Wolverhampton and is characteristic of the investment being made in our city.
“It also ties in with our brownfield-first policy by bringing disused land back into use, helping boost our drive for a sustainable economy.
“Most importantly, it will both safeguard jobs and create new jobs for local people.”
