Beer will be flowing again at The Shrewsbury Arms in Wolverhampton Street, which has been a pub since 1818 on Friday.

It was originally known as The Talbot Inn and was later renamed as The Shrewsbury Arms in honour of the Earl of Shrewsbury who owned land in the area.

The pub, which has a one-room bar and patio at the rear, is owned by Admiral Taverns.

It was previously owned by Dudley-based Hansons which became part of Wolverhampton and Dudley Breweries – now Marston's.

The pub is also known by its nickname of "The Cowshed" and is grade two listed. It was alleged to have been haunted by a ghost called "Old Joe".

One of its former landlords from 1973 to 1976 was Hungarian wrestler Istvan Kiss who died in 1989.

It has been closed for several months and is reopening under manager Richard Curtis who is planning to start serving real ale again in the near future.

Opening hours will be 10am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 10am to 12 noon Fridays and Saturdays.

The other Grade II listed pub in the town centre is The Fellows in The Broadway.
