Giant Rugeley Amazon site to close and be replaced by bigger Sutton Coldfield centre
A £500 million investment by Amazon is to see a giant new fulfilment centre open at Sutton Coldfield.
It is planned to replace the existing massive Amazon complex at Rugeley and create an initial net new 400 jobs.
The old fulfilment centre in Towers Business Park will close, subject to consultation due to finish in September, with all 1,000 employees offered the opportunity to relocate to the new building less than 20 miles away, or other Amazon sites.
The new site will employ 1,400 when it begins handling customer orders in October with recruitment for a range of roles including engineers, human resources staff, finance specialists and IT professionals underway.
Employment at the 547,000 sq ft fulfilment centre will grow to 2,000 people within three years.
Amazon is also recruiting operations managers and for the teams who pick, pack and ship customer orders.
