Popular chippy celebrates 25 years trading in community
Staff at a popular Cannock fish bar will be celebrating 25 years in business.
Nirmal Khela and her husband Jaspal Singh Khela have run Festival Fish Bar in Pye Green Road for 25 years and during that time they have cemented their plaice in the community.
Nirmal and Jaspal brought the shop in 1998 and to celebrate the anniversary they are knocking 25 per cent off everything on the menu for its birthday on Thursday through the Cannock Eats App.
Although costs of utilities and raw materials have rocketed over the last few years, the couple, who run the shop with Jaspal's brother Daljit and the whole Khela family have adapted with the times.
A large part of the business is now deliveries but Nirmal said they have also maintained a loyal customer base and walk in trade.
She said: "Things have been tough in the current climate with everything going up and people adapting their orders and not coming in as much.
"But we have a loyal base and have customers who are now long standing friends and their grandchildren also visit us.
"Things have changed dramatically since we first opened, a lot of the business is orders online, people don't even have to come in now.
"But we always maintain enough staff so that people who do come in are served quickly and I still love talking to them – it is my favourite part of the job which after all these years I still love.
"Hopefully we will see many of them today and the money off offer is the least we can do for the loyalty of the community which sees us still in business after all these years."
