Inside Poundland: Secrets from the Shopfloor shows how it is weathering the storm caused by the coronavirus and long-term changes in shopping habits to be one of the few retailers in the UK that is investing in growth.

Episode one will be transmitted on Channel 4 on Monday, December 7 at 9pm and the second part a week later, with both instalments available immediately on All4 as a mini boxset.

The documentary puts the spotlight on the dramatic changes underway as the store broadens its ranges and plans to open and re-site 45 stores in an investment of up to £15 million over the next 12 months.

The documentary also tracks the biggest transformation in its 30-history, as Poundland has broadened its ranges, stocking a wider range want and dramatically changing the public’s perception of the stores.

At its Walsall store, managing director Barry Williams joins the team stocking the new range of fresh and frozen food which by Christmas will have been introduced at 119 stores, just over a year since it was piloted at Ashbourne in Derbyshire.

Barry and the senior management team also give their Sutton Coldfield colleagues a well-earned rest after smashing targets and take over the store, stacking shelves and working the tills.

Mr Williams said: “We hope viewers will see the enormous hard work, dedication and sheer enthusiasm of our colleagues up and down the country as they deliver on our promise of amazing value as we transform the business to offer our customers more of what they want.”
