Fresh blow for newly-opened Wolverhampton restaurant
A new restaurant which opened in a former pub will have traded for less than a week before it closes to customers due to the second lockdown.
Udays opened on Dudley Road, Blakenhall, in a former pub called British Desi Queen.
Work started on the new restaurant in January but had to be paused due to coronavirus and now it has opened has created 15 jobs.
But the restaurant will have to close to customers dining in on Thursday, with bosses saying they hope to run delivery and collection to keep the business going.
More Covid-19 coverage:
Restaurant manager Tito Jerad said: "The opening was really good, it was really busy.
"This restaurant is modern with a cocktail lounge, we would like to give everyone the fine dining experience for an affordable price.
"This was in an old pub we had to knock everything out, it was just a frame."
Mr Jerad added: "We're not sure if we're going to be eligible for furlough as we only started trading last month, it's going to be hard.
"The opening was wonderful we've had a full house in the evenings."
Councillor Jasbinder Dehar opened the restaurant on Friday, which is the second owned by Udayveer Singh on the street. The first is Dosa Hut which opened four years ago.
She said: "They invited me as the local councillor to open the restaurant.
"I think for the local businesses in Blakenhall it's a success story.
"It's absolutely beautiful."
