Concern for Black Country businesses in second lockdown
The chief executive of the Black Country Chamber of Commerce says a second lockdown is going to be "extremely problematic" for many companies in the region.
Corin Crane said he was concerned for businesses who were once again being thrown into disarray after months of uncertainty.
“We absolutely respect the need to protect lives and keep people safe”, said Mr Crane, “But another lockdown will be extremely problematic for many businesses.”
He voiced his concerns as the country prepares for stricter restrictions on Thursday.
"Last month, I co-signed a letter sent to the Prime Minister from the Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce which challenged the government to meet five key business tests before announcing further restrictions.
“The business community has sacrificed so much over the last six months and invested heavily in innovative approaches to deal with the ever changing rules with some such as hospitality businesses having had four sets of rules in six weeks, and many feel let down by a government that has failed to implement the robust test and trace system that it said was the key to keeping people and businesses working throughout the pandemic," he added.
Mr Crane said the business support organisation had seen a significant increase in members accessing its services and platforms to stay connected and informed.
"I will be writing to all of our members later this week to outline how we will continue to assist them during November.
“Finally, I would urge all businesses to reach out to us, help and guidance is available and business leaders do not have to go through this alone," he stressed.
