The shop has been earmarked for the vacant Carphone Warehouse premises at Windmill Shopping Centre, in Cape Hill, Smethwick.

A planning application, submitted to Sandwell Council, says the shop would operate a takeaway feature for hot and cold drinks, food and coffee beans and other coffee paraphernalia.

In the report, planners have highlighted how coffee shops boost high streets, with research provided from other studies.

The report said: "Coffee shops have a highly positive impact on local businesses.

"Fifty-eight per cent of local businesses interviewed indicated that coffee shops attract more people to their business.

"Eighty-five per cent of consumers state that coffee shops have a valuable role in the local community."

The plans will be discussed by Sandwell Council's planning committee at a future date.
