The construction and support services group is expanding support to the UK’s public services in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and recruiting in the region of 1,500 people to undertake essential roles.

Currently about 250 are employed at the Interserve Healthcare head office in Telford and in delivering care packages across Shropshire and Birmingham. It needs to recruit around 50 new healthcare assistants in these areas.

The new roles will add to the efforts the company, which has just built the new NHS Nightingale Hospital at Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre, is already making via its internal redeployment team, giving colleagues who are furloughed the opportunity to transfer to active contracts where training and geography allow.

The company, which has its regional office at Ingenuity House, Elmdon Trading Estate, Birmingham, plans to recruit a mixture of temporary and permanent positions including 800 people in Interserve’s communities business unit to support its NHS contracts in London, Birmingham and the South East delivering facilities management services including cleaning, maintenance and portering.

It also needs 200 people in Interserve’s communities business unit to support FM services at the North West Nightingale Hospital in Manchester.

Also 500 people are needed to support Interserve Healthcare, which delivers high-quality complex care services to adults and children.

Interserve carries out a wide range of vital roles to assist the NHS and other crucial services. The company has FM and total FM contracts at 16 NHS Trusts, six healthcare facilities and the London Ambulance Service and Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service.

The services the company delivers range from security through to cleaning, catering as well as maintenance and portering duties. Interserve Healthcare delivers care, parenteral nutrition and administers intravenous medicine to patients in their homes across the UK.

It employs 600 in cleaning and maintenance at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.

In Shropshire Interserve Care At Home covering the county and North Walse is based at Interserve Healthcare, Grosvenor House, Central Park, Telford. Hundreds are employed across the county.

It also owns specialist construction firm RMD Kwikform in Aldridge and has offices in West Bromwich.

Lynn Mawdsley, Interserve’s managing director for support services, said: “Our cleaners, porters, security, catering staff and maintenance colleagues play a crucial role in supporting and maintaining hospitals and critical infrastructure across the UK.

“Making sure that hospitals remain clean and provides the best possible environment for NHS staff and patients is always of paramount importance, but now more than ever quite simply the services our teams deliver are helping to save lives. Interserve Healthcare is supporting the UK Government’s response to COVID-19 by providing critical care to people in their homes, thereby freeing up hospital space for people admitted due to coronavirus.

“I am immensely proud of all of our teams who are working in such challenging circumstances.”
