Post Office looking for new base after Hednesford Co-op closure
A Post Office is looking for a different site so it can remain open permanently after the Co-op it was inside closed down.
Hednesford Co-op in Anglesey Street closed on Sunday after 39 years in business, and the workers in a Post Office inside are now waiting to find out how long they can stay in the building.
Plans to close the shop were announced in October as sales have fallen, but bosses said they would try and keep the post office inside the shop open.
A consultation period began on October 11 and finished on January 10.
A spokesman for the Post Office said: "We have had confirmation that the Co-op store has closed. But the Post Office does remain open at the site.
"We are awaiting confirmation from the owner of the premises as to how long the Post Office can remain at the site.
"The Post Office is actively looking for an alternative site that it can operate for the long term."
