Hairdresser can open salon in back garden log cabin
A hairdresser’s bid to open a salon in a log cabin has made the cut according to Lichfield councillors.
Amanda Russell was granted planning permission for the new hairdressing room in the rear garden of her Fradley home at a Lichfield District Council planning committee meeting on Monday.
The application had been called in for discussion by the committee by ward councillor Derick Cross.
He said: “The application received five concerns – not complaints – which related mainly to the hours stated in the application which add up to 69 hours. People were concerned about what was going to be a potentially very busy salon.
“To counter these problems I engaged with planning officers, the applicant and also with one main objector, which is the hair salon where the applicant previously worked. We managed to come to a compromise.
“The hours are no longer a concern and are mainly to have flexibility. She wants to work 20 hours a week by appointment only,”
Adam Russell, speaking in support of the application, added: “The main driver around this is to fit around family life.”
The meeting was told the Stapleford Avenue salon would be for the sole use of the applicant. Conditions include only one customer being present at the site at any one time and a logbook detailing appointment dates and times to be kept for monitoring purposes, as well as one off street car parking space being made available for customers.
The salon shall only be open to customers between 9am and 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
The approval was granted on a temporary basis, to last for 24 months.
