Walsall Council’s planning officers have approved an application submitted by Consol Univilla Limited to open the solarium in Littleton Street West.

It will be based in the Littleton Centre, which has seen a new 60-bed Travelodge and 24-hour McDonald’s restaurant open up. It is also situated near a new Tesco Superstore and Walsall College’s main campus.

The unit originally had permission for a new restaurant, drinking establishment or takeaway but planners have agreed to change its use to pave the way

In the application, agents Boon Brown Planning said: “The unit forms part of the recently competed Littleton Centre which is within Walsall town centre.

“The unit is part of a mixed-use scheme that included a 60 bed hotel, two-storey McDonald’s restaurant with drive-thru and a mix of other us. Parking and landscaping were included within the development.

“The building fronts Littleton Street West and can be accessed from there, alternative access can also be made from within the wider Littleton Centre area.

“The main high street and train station is to the south of the site with a large retail park to the west.

“To the east is a large Tesco Extra super store. To the north is Walsall College Wisemore Campus along with a range of other facilities.

“Minimal physical works are proposed including the creation of extraction vents and laying out of the unit internally.

“The site well located in relation to both the town centre and Gigaport redevelopment area and will not adversely impact upon any regeneration strategies.

“The proposal is considered compliant with adopted local and national policy it is therefore respectfully requested that planning permission is granted.”
