New Indian cafe planned for Walsall
A new cafe selling Indian food could take over an empty Walsall shop unit creating 15 jobs, if planners give the green light to plans.
National chain Chaiiwala is looking to open up its latest branch at the vacant retail unit on Pleck Road and has submitted an application to Walsall Council.
If approved, the company says it will create 15 jobs and provide a boost to the area by bringing a vacant unit back into use.
Chaiiwala is also looking to open from 8am to 11pm and say ample parking is already available on the site.
The unit is next door to Heavenly Desserts, which had secured retrospective planning permission in April this year.
The application said: “Chaiiwala is a fast-growing brand café franchise offering Karak Chaii and urban desi style street food.
“Our stores around the country serve food and drinks that will take you back to the east.
“Since opening their first café in 2008, the franchise has gone from strength to strength and opened cafés across the country including London, Birmingham, Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.
“The company’s long-term goal is to further expand the business both nationally and internationally.
“The applicant is eager to secure a premise within the Walsall area which will provide a dining experience that is not currently available in the local area.
“It is vital to highlight the economic benefits brought forward by the proposal.
“Given the site is currently vacant, the change of use of the site allows a highly successful national business to open a premises within Walsall which overall contributes to economic growth and would help to attract further inward investment to the area.
“The proposed unit will be improved both internally and externally with investment, providing a high quality café space for local residents.
“The proposal provides a total of 15 new jobs comprising 10 full-time and five part-time positions for local residents.”
