A 'dilapidated' Walsall petrol station will be demolished to make way for a 'modern' new building.

MPK Garages has been given approval to replace the James Bridge Service Station in Heath Road, which has been on the site since at least 1988.

The existing forecourt shop building has a café and a garage facility, and the existing site also includes a hand car wash.

The proposal is to demolish the existing forecourt shop building, forecourt, and car wash facilities and construct a new modern shop building and forecourt.

The plan says: "The new building will be longer but lower than the existing, making it closer in scale to the domestic properties on the opposite side of Short Street."

Walsall Council gave the application the green light yesterday.
