£100k of ScS sofas and carpets cannot be collected during Beatties talks
Shoppers who ordered furniture at Beatties before the Mike Ashley takeover have been told they cannot pick up their paid-for goods.
Sofa and carpet retailer ScS has run the concession inside the department store for four years. But following the collapse of House of Fraser Ltd, orders made before are not being fulfilled while negotiations take place with new owners Sports Direct.
The Express & Star understands there are around 50 customers affected who have paid out, in total, around £100,000.
A spokesman for ScS said: “We find ourselves in a very unfortunate situation and one which is outside of our control and we’re very eager to resolve. We have great sympathy for any customer affected by the recent administration at House of Fraser of which essentially we are one.
“It’s important to make clear all in-store customer purchases are made directly with House of Fraser Ltd and we simply act as the supplier.
“At this time, we currently await clarification and confirmation from the administrator and the new owners, Sports Direct, to understand what they’re intending to do for customers who have placed orders in-store prior to the administration. Until this clarification is reached, we’re unable to supply to House of Fraser or fulfil customer orders that were placed prior to the sale to Sports Direct.”
ScS provides furniture in 31 House of Fraser stores, including Birmingham.
This month, the furniture store reported an annual like-for-like sales growth of 0.2 per cent.
It enjoyed a 2.2 per cent growth in the first six months, but this was offset by a 2.6 per cent drop in the second half.
Orders dropped 4.3 per cent. It was put down to poor weather and financial troubles at House of Fraser
