Among the successful events so far, Talbots invited Canadian legal expert and author Mitch Kowalski to speak at one of its events, looking at the challenges professional firms are facing in a changing world.

Talbots was running two events yesterday at its offices, offering advice to businesses and to developers looking to raise funding to assist with buying land and developing it.

They were among a string of sessions across the Black Country, from Minerva Growth talking about how hypnosis can help firms get the right mindset, at the Old Bank Business Centre in Darlaston, to the Midland Marketing Company offering advice on improving sales at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce offices on Wolverhampton science park.

The Chamber was also hosting one of a series of events looking at how to get the best out of a workforce by taking better care of them. Law firm Higgs & Son was talking about creating a healthy workplace by taking account of both mental health and physical wellbeing, while Paycare ran an event at the Light House Media Centre on ways to encourage employees to be more involved in how a business runs.

The Light House was also hosting an event last night about the impact creative industries are having in the Black Country.

Meanwhile Sandwell Business Solutions Centre was aiming to bring business people together with the organisations that could provide the vital funding they need to move their companies forward.

The main aim of the 122 events that are being run over the fortnight of the Black Country Business Festival is to bring businesses together, so they can share their best ideas.

For instance Beeling Promotional Products used an event at the Ramada Park Hall Hotel & Spa to show firms how the use of branded merchandise can help promote their brands. The Festival also aims to raise the flag for enterprise in the region, as a showcase for Black Country innovation, culture and commerce. It is the first of three planned annual events, with the hope that the festival will become a permanent fixture in the Black Country's diary.
