Work is due to start next month and is due to be completed by the end of the year.

The West Midlands-based family-owned firm has been selected by developers Corwell Property Group for the mixed use site.

Wisemore Central will bring a 60-bed Travelodge hotel, two-storey McDonalds and a further 15,000 sq ft of leisure and shoping premises to the town, connecting the western quarter as part of a wider ‘community-spirited’ hub.

Also signed up are Explore Learning, GDK and Costa, with a further unit to let, and the scheme is expected to generate between 100 and 120 full- and part-time posts.

John Rawlinson, regional director for Stepnell, said: “We are delighted to be working with Cordwell to deliver this major mixed-use development.

"This important scheme will make a significant contribution to further regeneration in Walsall, and also enables Stepnell to provide community benefits including local job, training and apprenticeship opportunities and work for local suppliers.

“Appointing a local team helps ensure the deliverability of the scheme. We are all excited to be working on a project which will create valuable facilities for both residents and visitors, bringing more people into the town centre and contributing to the area’s prosperity by giving rise to a wide range of employment and training opportunities locally.”

The development will fit in with the £400 million ‘Gigaport’ scheme, The Office Corridor, with the potential over time, to create up to 3,200 jobs, retain and attract new commercial enterprises to the town.
