KWB brings former Walsall police station back to market after sale falls through
The former Walsall police station, which went on sale for around £1 million last year, is back on the market after a deal fell through.
Commercial property agents KWB are handling the building and promoting it as a 'gateway development site'.
Acting on behalf of the West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner, KWB’s Martin Cook is marketing the freehold of the 36,500 sq ft office building on a 1.6 acre site as a redevelopment opportunity.
The former police station is situated in Walsall town centre, on the corner of Green Lane and Blue Lane East, next door to the town's magistrates court.
Mr Cook said: “The former police station could be retained as offices, but as a landmark site just off Walsall ring road, subject to planning permission, it would better suit redevelopment for an office led mixed used scheme.”
The former police station was originally put up for sale in October last year, after West Midlands Police announced it was closing the site along with 26 others following a year-long review.
Although the asking price for the site has not being revealed, when it first went up for sale last year it was listed on property website Zoopla with a price tag of £1 million.
It attracted an offer but KWB says no agreement was able to be reached and the building has now been put back on the market.
The former station boasts offices, gym, storage, kitchen, toilets and internal car parking. It was originally due to close on May 31 last year but the date was pushed backed as refurbishment work on the force’s new Bloxwich base was still going on.
The closure of the former Walsall station was part of plans from West Midlands Police to save more than £3 million a year and came just weeks after the force announced it would be taking on more than 1,100 new police officers, PCSOs and other staff in its biggest recruitment drive for six years.
KWB is also marketing the former Shirley Police Station in Solihull.
The agency says it is looking for 'unconditional offers' for the former Walsall Police Station.
