Over 100 runners have already signed up to compete in the charity 10k on Sunday, April 9, in Cannon Hill Park, Edgbaston. Last year, more than 160 runners took part and have helped raise a total of £10,000 since the run started in 2012.

The event is open to the public, with an entry fee of £12 or £10 for those associated with an affiliated running club. All funds raised will be donated to the Ronnie Bowker Foundation, helping young people from disadvantaged backgrounds get a head start to life after school.

The charity run was set up by EY and the Bowker family to create a legacy for EY’s former senior partner Ronnie Bowker, who died from cancer. Part of the funds raised from this year’s event will help support initiatives such as EY’s Smart Futures programme in Birmingham, which gives Year 12 students paid work experience over the summer and the chance to gain a Chartered Management Institute qualification. The Ronnie Bowker Foundation Bursary also awards £5,000 to one student in the Smart Futures programme to help them through university.

Mark Minihane, partner at EY and chair of the Ronnie Bowker Foundation, said: “It’s been a privilege to be involved in organising the EY Foundation Birmingham 10k, which has raised over £10,000 for charity since we first set up the run five years ago. It’s a popular course that attracts a broad range of abilities from beginners to running clubs – it’s also great to see many EY staff members taking part every year.”

Register online or go to the Facebook page for more info. The race starts at 10am and runners are to register at the MAC Centre on the day. The course involves two 5k loops around the park, and will be well marshalled by volunteers.
