Booker annual sales grow to £5bn
Wholesale group Booker says that sales for the year to March 25 were up five per cent to £5 billion.
For the 12 weeks to March 25 they were up by 10.6 per cent for the group which has Booker sites at Kingswinford and Wolverhampton.
Booker Wholesale with Makro, its cash and carry business, had a good quarter for customer numbers, customer satisfaction and cash profit.
It said tobacco sales continued to be adversely impacted by the ban on small stores displaying tobacco products and down 6.1 per cent like-for-like.
Chief executive Charles Wilson, Booker Chief Executive, said: "Overall, 2015-2016 was a good year. Customer satisfaction scores were strong, sales and profits were the best we have ever achieved.
"We made good progress on the integration of Londis and Budgens. We continue to improve choice, prices and service to our customers. Booker Group remains on track to focus, drive and broaden the business."
