DFS growth hits record levels

Upholstered furniture group DFS has reported growth in both profits and sales to record levels for the year to August 1.

Revenue was up by 7.5 per cent to £706.1 million for DFS, which has sites in Brierley Hill and Cannock, with pre-tax profit up from £3.6m for the previous year to £10.7m

Five new 10,000 to15,000 sq ft DFS sites opened in UK and Ireland with the DFS small store format successfully trialled in London. Two more are now planned. The first two European stores have also opened in The Netherlands.

There was a 75 per cent growth in branded upholstery orders through DFS.

Six customer distribution centres are now operating successfully, releasing circa 70,000 sq ft of additional selling space

Online saw a strong 17% growth in web sales.

DFS chairman Richard Baker said: "The Group's growth strategy is delivering positive results across multiple initiatives and there are still substantial further potential opportunities for DFS in both the UK and international markets under our current strategy."

Chief executive Ian Filby said it had outperformed the broader furniture market, and achieved record sales and operating profits.
