Intu Properties will take over the running of the Brierley Hill based complex after buying half of the centre which had been owned by Westfield.

The complex will be known as intu Merry Hill and a re-branding of the centre has been launched.

Its new website intu.co.uk/merryhill has also gone live and posters and leaflets are being distributed throughout the complex.

The company already owns the Trafford Centre, Manchester; Metrocentre, Gateshead and Lakeside, Essex.

Plans for a major revamp of the site are already said to be in the pipeline.

Mike Butterworth, chief operating officer for Intu said: 'We're really pleased that intu Merry Hill is now part of our family of shopping centres. We are passionate about providing great shopping experiences and although it is a great centre we can see opportunities to make it even better."

He said it was too early to give specific details of future plans for the centre.

He had previously pledged to keep free car parking at the centre although Dudley Council has made it clear it will not permit any expansion of Merry Hill without parking charges being imposed.

The other half of the centre is still owned by Australian investment body QIC.
