Sales keep rising at JD Sports

The group, which also sells outdoor clothing, footwear and sports equipment, has more than 900 stores in the UK and across Europe.

That includes branches in Cannock, Merry Hill, Stafford, Telford, Walsall, Wednesfield, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton and Wrexham.

JD Sports, which will issue a post-Christmas trading update on January 10 said that the result for the full year would be substantially dependent on the sales and margin performance through the Christmas period and particularly in the last two weeks of December.

The board believes the group remains on course to deliver earnings at least in line with expectations.

The chain is preparing to open its largest European store in the Netherlands on December 17. The 2.6 million sq ft flagship store is in Rotterdam. JD Sports opened the first of 14 Dutch stores earlier this year.

The first store in the UK, John David Sports in Bury, opened in 1981.

Earlier this month it acquired a majority stake in online specialists sports store ActivInstinct for an undisclosed sum and a controlling stake in Edinburgh-based outdoor clothing and equipment retailer Tiso.
