The West Bromwich Building Society today distanced itself from reports it could become part of a new "super-mutual".
Reports claimed the society - along with the Skipton, Norwich & Peterborough and Principality societies - could all receive bids from US private equity group JC Flowers as it looks to build a mutually-owned lender partially on the London stock markets.
But West Brom spokesman Nick Trueman said there had been no talks.
