City man receives palace honour

A Wolverhampton man described as "one of the most influential individuals in UK local government" was today honoured with a knighthood.

Peter Rogers received the honour from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace today, which also saw horror movie legend Christopher Lee knighted and musician Joe Brown receive the MBE.

Sir Peter, from Tettenhall, has become a well-known name in local government.

He was last year chosen by Boris Johnson to be chief executive of the London Development Agency, which is behind London's preparations for the 2012 Olympics.

The father-of-two was recognised today for his services to local government over a career spanning more than 40 years. He is also deputy chairman of housing company Pinnacle.

Neil Euesden, Pinnacle's managing director, said: "Peter is one of most influential individuals in UK local government and he is an asset on our board."
