The retailer has confirmed it will be opening a store in a unit on the Queens Retail Park in January.

The move has been welcomed as a great boost for the town by the leader of Stafford Borough Council.

The Next home store sells furniture for the home and stocks a variety of kitchenware, tableware, paints and domestic appliances.

It is currently taking part in expansion plans for its home store concept and Stafford has been identified as an ideal location.

A spokeswoman for Next today confirmed the store would be opening in Stafford in January with the creation of a number of jobs.

She said: "Next has identified a unit in Stafford and will be moving a home store into a 9,000 square foot unit in January at the Queensville Retail Park.

"Stafford has been seen as an ideal location for a Next home store. At the moment we have 16 across the UK and we want to increase the amount of home stores.

"Stafford has been identified as an ideal location to be included in our expansion plan.

"At the moment we can't say exactly how many jobs we will be creating but it will be a significant number.

"It is really good news for Stafford and we are confident it will prove to be very popular. We are scheduled to open in January.

Councillor Mike Heenan, leader of Stafford Borough Council, welcomed the news.

He said: "I think this is excellent for Stafford. We are in the middle of a credit crunch at the moment so anything which creates investment in Stafford should be welcomed. A number of new jobs will be created which is absolutely brilliant. This will be a boost for the town."
