The company is believed to have closed last week.

Workers union Amicus confirmed it had members based at the Bronx site who had contacted them to say they had been made redundant.

"We have been contacted by some of our members to say that Bronx Manufacturing has closed down and they have lost their jobs," said Amicus union official Andy Taylor.

"I believe it is quite a small firm employing around 30 staff and we have around a dozen members there.

Mr Taylor said the company, that manufactures large machinery, had changed hands a number of times over the years.

He added that workers who had contacted him had said everyone at the firm had been made redundant.

Staff from neighbouring units in Dudley Road said they had not seen anyone on the site for more than a week.

According to Companies House, an on-line register of limited companies, The Bronx Manufacturing Co is still an active company but the address details have changed.
