Interest rates slashed to 1.5%
The Bank of England today cut interest rates by half a percentage point, from 2 per cent to 1.5 per cent - the lowest level in history.

The news will be welcomed by some people with mortgages, but will be a blow to those with savings.
The half percentage point reduction brings interest rates below 2 per cent for the first time since the Bank of England was founded in 1694.
The Bank has now reduced rates four times from October's 5 per cent level.
