Sales for the year to June 30 surged 12.5 per cent to £354.7 million, with underlying profit before taxation up nearly eight per cent to £41 million.

Founded in 1979 as a market stall business in the Midlands selling ready made curtains, the group now has 84 stores branded Dunelm Mill, including the landmark store alongside the M6 at junction 10 at Walsall as well as outlets at Darlaston, Oldbury, Stafford, Wolverhampton and Cannock.

Chief executive Will Adderley said: "This has been an excellent year for Dunelm. Having completed our flotation almost a year ago we have delivered record sales and profits despite the uncertain market environment.

"I firmly believe that Dunelm remains the leading multiple homewares specialist in the UK, and our continued like-for-like sales growth ahead of the wider retail market demonstrates the real strength of our 'Simply Value for Money' proposition."
