Rotech Laboratories of Wednesbury – a member of the Rubery Owen group of companies – has bought Bilston-based CS Laboratory Services for an unspecified amount.

John Owen, managing director of the Rubery Owen Group, steered the purchase and has installed Richard Smith as managing director of Rotech Laboratories, following the retirement of Ray Dunkley.

Rubery Own says Rotech Laboratories has a strong track record in the field of material analysis, testing and advisory services. Having restructured the business in order to broaden its potential client base Rotech has continued to grow in strength, now boasting over 800 customers and a turnover of around £1million.

"In recent years Rotech has undergone a major transformation," said Richard Smith. "In response to the nationwide decline in manufacturing the company has refocused its attention on other market areas such as the engineering, petrochemical and marine industries."

We are sure that this latest investment, the acquisition of CS Laboratory Services Limited, will give Rotech a major advantage over the competition both in the UK and Europe."

The new product stream of small batch heat treatment of superalloys was a particular niche strength, and is now brought into the expanding Rotech Laboratories service portfolio.

Mr Smith also explained that the new development effectively combined the strengths of both businesses.

"We have moved the best equipment and the staff from Bilston to the Rotech site to form what is possibly the largest single metallurgical test centre in the country. We are in a stronger position than ever and looking forward to even greater success."
