Teaching staff from the Rushall school have been on the picket lines in a bid to stop the Matrix Academy Trust taking over the secondary school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties (SEMH).

The group of determined staff have been peacefully protesting outside the school but today (Tuesday, March 25) took their placards to Leicester Street in front of Walsall Town Hall and council offices to ensure their "voices are heard".

If the move goes ahead, the King George Crescent secondary school will become an academy this summer.

Staff have reported receiving "threatening" letters explaining that if they do not agree to the move, they will be terminated from their roles.

The staff are protected by the National Educational Union (NEU), which says the Matrix Academy Trust has no experience or expertise in running a dedicated special needs school.
