One left with 'superficial injuries' following incident which closes Smethwick railway station platform

Trains are unable to call at a railway station platform due to an incident where a person was left with 'superficial injuries'.

Platform 1 (towards Worcester) at Smethwick Galton Bridge Railway Station has been forced to close due to an emergency services-led incident. 

Emergency services rushed to the scene of Smethwick Galton Bridge Railway Station at 3.40am following concerns for the welfare of a man.

One ambulance attended the scene, quickly finding a patient who had superficial injuries.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called by the police to Smethwick Galton Bridge Railway Station at 3.40am following concerns for the welfare of a man. 

"One ambulance attended the scene. The patient had superficial injuries and was discharged on scene."

West Midlands Railway announced that the platform would be closed 'until further notice', with the group advising that those travelling towards Worcester should instead travel via Langley Green. 

On X, the transport group said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident at Smethwick Galton Bridge (High Level). 

"Trains are unable to call at Platform 1 (Towards Worcester) until further notice. 

"If travelling to Smethwick, you may need to travel to Langley Green and back on yourself."

Ticket acceptance is now in place with National Express West Midlands between Birmingham and Stourbridge only.

West Midlands Police have been approached for further information.
