The Fresh Prince is set to take to the stage at the University of Wolverhampton at The Halls on August 30 as part of a UK-wide tour.

It comes as the 'Miami' singer is set to release his first album in more than 20 years, 'Based On A True Story'.

The news that the superstar would be coming to the city was met with surprise by many.

Lauren Hopkins, aged 29, said: “It’s big. You wouldn’t really expect Will Smith to choose Wolverhampton as one of his venues.

"I would have thought he would go somewhere bigger like Birmingham. So yeah it’s a surprise.”

University of Wolverhampton student, William Mitchell, from Wednesbury, said it was "great" news.

The 20-year-old told the Express & Star: "I think it’s great that a super star such as Will smith is coming to Wolverhampton. It definitely will expose Wolverhampton on a more international level.”

Will Smith has kept a low profile since his notorious slapping incident at the Oscars in 2022.

During the 94th Academy Awards, he walked onstage and slapped comedian Chris Rock across the face following an unscripted joke Rock made about Smith's wife Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, which was a result of alopecia.

International university student, Da Young, who lives in Wolverhampton, said the show who be a good opportunity for the star to "restore his image".

Mitchell Grainger, aged 32, added: "It’s crazy because he is one of the biggest actors. It most definitely is a surprise coming to Wolverhampton."

Kate Samuels however said she was "not that bothered".

The 25-year-old explained: "I can imagine why people are excited, but personally, I’ve got no interest."

As part of the tour, Will Smith will perform at other venues across the UK including in Scarborough, Cardiff, Manchester and London.
