Fire service treating blaze at Kingswinford scrap yard as 'deliberate'

Fire chiefs say they believe a blaze at a Kingswinford scrapyard was 'started deliberately'.

The fire, involving a derelict bus, van and two trailers broke out at a premises in Oak Lane, Kingswinford at around 6.30pm.

Three fire crews attended and remained on site until around 8.45pm.

A West Midlands Fire spokesman said: "Three fire engines and two 4x4 brigade response vehicles responded, crewed by firefighters from Brierley Hill, Dudley and Stourbridge stations.

"This was a fire at a scrap metal recycling centre, involving a derelict bus, van and two trailers.

 "Three hose reels were used to extinguish the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately. Crews used thermal imaging cameras to identify hotspots, which were extinguished."

"Firefighters left the scene at 8.45pm, returning later that evening to confirm no further hotspots remained. The site was handed back to security personnel."
