Two off-duty paramedics stopped to help at the scene of a crash in Staffordshire which left one man dead and two children hurt.

Emergency services - including an air ambulance - were called to Hednesford Road near Rugeley at around 4pm on Saturday (March 22).

A grey Land Rover and a grey MG were involved in a crash. The driver of the MG, a man aged in his 40s, died at the scene.

A woman and two children were taken to hospital with injuries which were not thought to be serious.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an road traffic collision involving four vehicles on Hednesford Road at 3.56pm on Saturday. 

"Two ambulances, two paramedic officers, a Medical Emergency Response Intervention Team trauma doctor with a Critical Care Paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene. 

"Two off duty paramedics also stopped to offer assistance. On arrival we discovered six patients. One of whom, a man, was found to be in a critical condition. 

"Sadly, it became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene. 

"A woman and two female children were treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Walsall Manor for further assessment. A further man and a woman were assessed and discharged at the scene."

On Sunday, Staffordshire Police issued an appeal for information of the fatal collision.
