Helen Tomlinson, headteacher at Red Hall Primary School in Lower Gornal, said these values "underpin everything" at the school, which has been serving the community for 145 years.

She explained: "It is not just about learning - we want to have children who grow up to be good citizens in the community. It is about thinking of their next steps, that bit beyond Red Hall."

Mrs Tomlinson said the Zoar Street school offers children the chance to go "beyond the curriculum". One of the ways it does this is through its yoga sessions, which pupils attend six times throughout the year.

The headteacher told the Express & Star: "Part of Red Hall's commitment is to supporting children's mental health and wellbeing - that's really important to us.
