Parking charges in Walsall set to rise again by up to 20-per-cent next month

Parking charges in Walsall are set to rise up to 20 per-cent from April as the authority looks to balance its books.

Walsall MBC has announced its schedule of charges which will take effect on April 14th.

 All parking charges, including short term, long term and permits for residents and businesses will rise.

Season ticket parking will rise 20 per cent with a one month pass currently priced at £55 rise to £66 and a three month ticket rising from £165 to £198.

A six month pass will now cost £792 - up from £660.

Short and long stay day car parks will rise up to 50 pence on average with Brook Street, Frederick Street and Charles Street in the town centre rising from 80 pence to £1 for up to two hours and £1.60 to £2 for up to four hours and £2,50 to £3 for all day. 

For 30 minutes parking the price will rise from 80 pence to £1, £1.50 to £1.80 for an hour and £3 to £3.60 for two hours.

The short term parking increase will take effect at all car parks in Bradford Street, Freer Street, Goodall Street, Hatherton Street, Lichfield Street, Little Newport Street, Lower Forster Street, Lower Hall Lane, Midland Road, Stafford Street, Station Street and Walhouse Road.

The council announced a series of cuts in services and increase in parking charges and council tax in October as part of measures to save the authority around £29m.

As well as the parking charges, the cost of a residents permit will rise from £46 to £58 for 12 months and £24 to £29 for six months,

Business permit holders will pay £12 more for a year pass which goes up from £60-£72 and £7 for a six month permit.

Parking charges last rose in Walsall in June last year by up to 45 per-cent.

The council proposes to make the changes under the Waiting, Loading, Stopping, Disabled Parking and Residents Parking) Order July 2011.
