A day of celebrations through music, cake and good cheer, saw singers come in to serenade Olive and a visit from  members of Kingswinford school Crestwood's choir as well as a steel band."

One person helping her celebrate was John Kelly, who has known Olive - the best friend of his mum - for 50 years.

He said: "I take her out twice a week, we used to go shopping but I do that for her now but we still go for a walk which she loves.

"Olive has been part of the family for years and although my mum couldn't be here for the day as she is 92 she sent her best wishes - the two have been firm friends for years.

"She still keeps in touch with family and friends via a mobile phone and loves doing so - everyone enjoyed the day and it was a fitting birthday for her."

The manager of the care home Leanne Brown said Olive was a character who participated fully in all the activities at the care home and also enjoyed a daily cup of tea and a chat.

She said: "It is quite an achievement to reach 101 and it was great people in the community could drop in and help her celebrate as well as plenty of friends like John who helped make it an even more special occasion."
