Health and safety abuses to blame for death of a worker at Dudley factory, court hears

The trial concerning a Dudley company accused of being at fault for the death of its employee during an industrial accident in 2018 has finally started.

Maciej Rozanski, from Walsall, died whilst removing metal from an unsafe structure at Surface Technik (Old Hill) Limited, Sovereign Works, Lower Gornal, on June 29, 2018.

The company has since been liquidated but company manager Robert Hammonds, aged 62, is standing trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court for failing to discharge his duty as an employer relating to the death.

The five day trial began with the jury being told about the death of Mr Rozanski who fell through the roof of a metal structure which was being dismantled.

The 43-year-old worker fell seven metres, hitting machinery during the fall, and sustained catastrophic fractures and injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
