Man, 52, arrested on suspicion of murder after 22-year-old dies following Walsall stabbing

A man has been arrested after a 22-year-old man died following a stabbing in Walsall.

West Midlands Police has confirmed the death of the 22-year-old man who was stabbed on Bloxwich Road, Walsall, at around 5.15pm on Monday.

The man was taken to hospital following the incident, however, he sadly died just before midnight.

A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody today.

Detective inspector Joe Davenport, leading the investigation, said: "We’re at a very early stage of the investigation and are working hard to understand what has happened and why.

“I’d urge anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam, doorbell or other footage from the area at the time to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Section 60 'stop-and-search' powers were quickly put into place following the incident, and shall now remain in place until 8am on Wednesday.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said one ambulance, three paramedic officers and a Medical Emergency Response Intervention Team trauma doctor and critical care paramedic attended the scene.

A spokesperson added: "Upon arrival we found a man with life threatening injuries. 

"He received advanced life support and advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to hospital for further treatment."

Police later confirmed the man had died. 

Police patrols have been increased in the area, with uniformed officers remaining on the road today to help reassure the community.
