Turnberry Park was the scene of huge police activity after the stabbing.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Jon Hunt has urged residents to sign a petition calling for CCTV in the park.

He said: "Turnberry Park safety has been an issue for a long time - the top issue in resident consultations -  and, awfully, is getting worse this year in spite of this otherwise being such a great little park.

"Earlier this month my colleague Cllr Morriam Jan submitted a petition to the city council calling for CCTV.

"We need more signatures to overcome resistance in the police and Birmingham City Council to taking responsibility for this - so we have put it online."

The petition can be signed here and states: "We the undersigned call for urgent action to install and maintain CCTV cameras in Turnberry Park, Great Barr, to ensure residents and users are safe."

The boy who was stabbed yesterday was being treated in hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Inspector Claire Jones, from West Midlands Police, said: "We know how much concern this incident has caused in the area, and will be putting extra patrols in place to offer reassurance to residents.

"We have officers working with schools in the area, and are listening to their concerns.

"I would urge witnesses or people with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can identify and arrest those responsible."
