Desie Dalton-Byrne shot at a group on Chudleigh Road in Erdington, Birmingham, at around 6.40pm on July 25 last year, though no one was hit.
The motive of the shooting has never been revealed, a West Midlands Police spokesperson said.
The 21-year-old was arrested in September after police carried out extensive CCTV enquiries and recovered footage showing Dalton-Byrne fire the gun and flee the scene.

The firearm was later located in a garden of an address in the nearby Low Wood Road.
At Birmingham Crown Court on March 6, Dalton-Byrne, of Chudleigh Road, Erdington, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison.
He pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

Detective Inspector Matt Marston, from the West Midlands Police Major Crime Unit, said: "Firearms and drugs play a significant role in criminality on our streets. It persistently erodes communities, ruining lives and blighting communities.
"As a result of this discovery, we’ve taken a deadly weapon off the streets, and an individual with direct access to it is behind bars.
“We hope this sentence will offer a deterrent to other criminals who act in this way.”
