Lorry driver taken to hospital after crashing into embankment on M6 near Stafford - two lanes still closed

A man has been taken to hospital after the lorry he was driving crashed into an embankment on the M6 as two lanes remain closed.

An ambulance and two paramedic officers were called to the collision on the southbound carriageway between J14 at Stafford and J13 at Dunston at around 3.40am on Thursday (March 13).

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "On arrival crews found a man who they treated for minor injuries before conveying him to New Cross Hospital.”

Staffordshire Police confirmed officers were called to the scene at 3.40am.

A force spokeswoman said: "A lorry collided with the embankment. The driver, a man in his 60s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Recovery was arranged for the vehicle."

Two lanes remain closed due to the recovery of the lorry involved in the crash.

At around 11.15am, National Highways warned motorists of 50 minute delays.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, the Government-owned company said: "Lanes one and two are closed on the M6 in Staffordshire southbound between J14 (Stafford) and J13 (Dunston) for ongoing complex recovery of a lorry involved in an earlier collision. 

"Delays of 50 mins and approximately seven miles of congestion on approach. Thanks for your patience."
