Heavy delays remain following multi-vehicle crash on M6 for Birmingham

Around 40 minutes of delays remain on the M6 following a multi-vehicle collision this morning.

Lane three of the M6 between Junction 6 to Junction 4A, leading to Birmingham International Airport, closed at around 6.42am on Monday morning due to a collision involving multiple vehicles.

The crash caused heavy delays in the area, with roads group, National Highways West Midlands initially warning of delays of around 30 minutes while a clean-up process took place. 

On X, National Highways West Midlands said: "Following a multiple vehicle collision, lane 3 of (3) is closed on the #M6 southbound between J6 (Birmingham) and J4A (M42 @bhx_official). 

"Traffic officers are on scene and recovery agents are en route to assist. Please allow extra time for your journey due to 30-minute delays."

The vehicles involved in the incident have since been cleared to the hard shoulder, however, delays of around 40 minutes and congestion of six miles remain in the area.

In an update posted to X, the group said: "The vehicles involved in the earlier multiple vehicle collision on the M6 southbound between J6 (Birmingham) and J4A (M42 @bhx_official) have now been cleared to the hard shoulder. 

"All lanes have been reopened with residual delays of 40 minutes and 6 miles of congestion." 

Emergency services have been approached for more information.
