Firefighters remain at scene overnight following fire at Wolverhampton scrapyard
Firefighters have remained at the scene overnight following a Wolverhampton fire that ripped through a scrapyard yesterday.

Fire crews were called to the scene of the Spring Road Industrial Estate on Lanesfield Drive in the Lanesfield area of Wolverhampton at around 10.45am on Saturday.
A total of five fire crews attended the incident initially, however around 10 fire engines and more than 50 firefighters attended the scene at the height of the blaze.

No casualties were reported in the incident, however, police and ambulance staff were on site to support the fire service.
Now, updated pictures from the scene have shown West Midlands Fire Service personnel remaining at the location to monitor any potential hotspots.
In their last update, a West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said: "Good progress has been made as we continue to work toward bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.

"Crews have confirmed that there are no signs of fire spread to any adjacent buildings. A relief plan, consisting of 30 firefighters, has been made. We are likely to be in attendance into the night."
The fire service confirmed that the incident involved a 'pile of scrap metal well alight', with the pile of scrap being approximately 30m x 30m.

At the time of the blaze, a spokesperson said: "Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are tackling the fire using hose reels and main jets. Crews have utilised the nearby Wolverhampton canal as an open water supply.
"There are no reports of casualties. The cause is not yet known."

During the fire, smoke could be seen rising well above the nearby buildings, with personnel seen discussing how to best tackle the fire nearby.
No new update has been provided in relation to the cause of the blaze, however, West Midlands Ambulance Service has been approached for more information.
