Whether it's Hermione Granger, Oliver Twist or the BFG, children across the region have transformed into their favourite fantasy figures to celebrate the occasion.
Express & Star readers have been sending in their wonderful photos too; Paddington, the Big Bad Wolf, and Sophie from the Tiger Who Came to Tea are just some of the characters that the little ones have brought to life for World Book Day this year.
The internationally recognised day is heralded as a celebration of not just books but also authors, illustrators and reading - some people are celebrating by picking up their favourite book, while others may be pledging to read dozens more.

Sophie from Wombourne shared an adorable photo of her daughter Florence, who dressed up as Sophie from The Tiger Who Came to Tea.
"I never want to see white tights and fabric paint again!", Sophie joked.
