Dudley is a town which has been viewed as a quiet market town, set deep in the Black Country, and was recently described in a national newspaper as "unheralded".

However, if you look closer and take the time to actually see what the town, which dates back to Anglo-Saxon times and which carries the slogan of "Capital of the Black Country", has to offer those taking a walk through the town centre or into the greater borough.

We've taken a look at what Dudley has to offer and have produced a list of 10 places or things that people can and should see when they visit the town.

The Black Country Living Museum is just one of many highlights of a trip to Dudley

Let's start with one of the best experience museum's around, a living time capsule of what life was like in the Black Country from the 19th century onwards.

Full of unique exhibitions run by members of staff in full period costume and full period character, the Black Country Living Museum is a great way to spend a day learning about the deep history of the region, while fans of Peaky Blinders will recognise bits of the museum featured in the hit show.

There are also opportunities to eat proper Black Country chips from Hobbs & Sons, enjoy a traditional pint in the Elephant and Castle Pub and take a ride on the tram as it potters around the site.

The famous zoo still brings in the visitors and features hundreds of animals set around an 11th century castle incorporating the world’s largest single collection of Tecton buildings and the country’s only vintage chairlift.

Visitors can see penguins, meerkats, rainbow lorikeets and a range of other animals spread across the 40-acre wooded hillside estate, as well as meet birds of prey and visit the farm.

The 11th century castle at the top of the hill can also enjoy the lush greenery inside the grounds and search for ghosts inside the ancient rooms.
