Multiple fire crews on site at Birmingham recycling plant blaze

Fire crews are currently tackling a blaze that broke out at a recycling plant in Birmingham this afternoon.

Crews were scrambled from local stations after the fire broke out at the facility in Mount Street in Nechells, Birmingham at around 3.45pm. 

Local residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut as firefighters work to extinguish the blaze involving a large stack of paper measuring around 20 metres by 16 metres.

A total of six fire engines, three 4×4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial ladder platform are in attendance as well as 43 firefighters. 

A member of the specialist drone team has also been deployed to support fire crews at the scene.

Crews are using three main jets to bring the fire under control. 

The cause is not yet known and there have been no casualties reported.
