The strangulation concerns an alleged attack on a woman on April 2, last year and the assault charge concerns beating the same woman in Cannock on May 6 last year.

He will stand trial at Stafford Crown Court on Monday, March 10, for intentional strangulation and assault by beating.

Cannock Magistrates Court, where Newey's first hearing was held on February 6, gave him conditional bail.

The magistrates ruled: "The bail conditions stipulate that he must not approach, contact, or communicate in any way with the alleged victim, except via an agreed third party for child contact only.

"He is also prohibited from entering or instructing anyone to enter a specific address in Cannock."
