The works on Dudley Road East were set up at around 2.15pm on Wednesday by Cadent Gas and were expected to run until 11.59pm on March 11.

It meant that four way temporary traffic lights were set up on the road near the junction with Temple Way and left drivers and bus services facing extra delays to their journeys.

A spokesman for National Express West Midlands said the 87 bus was seeing delays due to congestion and advised passengers to allow more time for travel.

The message read: "Four way temporary traffic lights on Dudley Road East in Tividale

"There is congestion on approach and the 87 is seeing delays.

"Allow more time to travel and apologies for any inconvenience caused."

A spokesman for Cadent Gas said: "Cadent are carrying out emergency gas repair works.

"These repairs can take time to resolve, but this is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers."
